Travel responsibly to Lake Achensee

Looking for an environmentally friendly way to travel to Lake Achensee? Great idea – and this is of course possible! The market town of Jenbach is a central traffic hub in Tirol only a 25-minute bus ride from Lake Achensee. Up to eight times per day, for example, the Austrian train “Railjet” from Vienna stops here. There is at least one connection per hour between the Bavarian capital Munich and the train station Jenbach. From there, the public buses operated by the Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT) run at regular intervals, transporting you comfortably to Lake Achensee. Visitors to Lake Achensee can take advantage of our free buses by presenting the reservation confirmation from their accommodation provider.

Travelling by train to Lake Achensee

  • Modern EC trains of the Deutsche Bahn (DB) run regularly from the railway hub in Munich to Jenbach in about 1 hour and 25 minutes. From Jenbach, Lake Achensee is just a short bus ride away. Your reservation confirmation is your free ticket for the public buses. 
  • Take the trains of the Deutsche Bahn (DB) to the train station Tegernsee and continue your journey by taxi or bus line 9550 via Kreuth to Lake Achensee (ca. 35 km).

  • The Austrian Federal Railway (ÖBB) offers a regular train service to Jenbach from the federal capital Vienna (4 hours) and from Linz (3 hours). From Jenbach, Lake Achensee is just a short bus ride away. Your reservation confirmation is your free ticket for the public buses.

Getting around eco-friendly and barrier-free

At peak times, buses run up to four times per hour between the Achensee villages and Jenbach. The AchenseeCard allows you free use of the public buses in the Achensee region (including Jenbach) for the duration of your stay. The bus operators use low-floor vehicles for barrier-free travel.
